Robert Barnett will take over as the new director of the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport (OWB) starting Nov. 26.

The Board of Directors of the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport named Barnett — the current manager of the Bowling Green/Warren County Regional Airport — the successor for director Bob Whitmer’s role at OWB. Whitmer’s retirement date is set for Dec. 1, according to Operations Manager John Rice. Whitmer has been Director of the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport since 2008.

In a statement released by the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport, the board of directors said they look forward to Barnett taking on the role as director.

“We could not be more excited that Rob is coming to Owensboro to lead our excellent team at the airport. His command and understanding of commercial air service, operations, and industrial development make him the first and best choice for Owensboro,” said Ed Riney, Board Chair.

Since 1999, Barnett has managed the Bowling Green/Warren County Regional Airport. Barnett said he is excited to have a role in Daviess County’s development and growth.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Owensboro and Daviess County as the director of this fantastic regional airport. Owensboro is a forward-thinking community that loves aviation and new opportunities. I am ready to continue this airport’s growth and success,” Barnett said.

After “extensive” interviews with several different candidates for the position, the Airport Board selected Barnett in a unanimous decision in a special called board meeting today.
